The interment took place in the St. Joseph Parish Cemetery in Fountain Springs.
Eternal rest grant unto Margaret, O Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
CORRECTION and ADDITION
In last weekend’s bulletin, we had a notice about the death of Louise Gualtieri Drelling. We gave her date of birth as 04 November 1925. The correct date is 07 November 1925.
We mentioned that Michael and Louise had five sons. We inadvertently omitted any reference to their four daughters! Sorry about that! The four daughters are: Patricia Drelling (deceased); Kathy Drelling Card; Valerie Drelling; Michelle Drelling Baustany.
VISITING PRIEST FROM “FOOD FOR THE POOR”
In last weekend’s bulletin, we said that we would have a visiting priest this weekend (21 / 22 Feb) who would preach at all the Masses on behalf of “FOOD FOR THE POOR”.
Please know that this priest and I communicated several times this past week and came to the mutual conclusion that it would be best if he were to postpone the visit until the weather is more tolerable. This priest is 76 years old and planned to drive to Girardville from Hartford CT. We tentatively agreed that he would visit us in December of 2015.

FUND RAISER FOR SAINT JOSEPH PARISH!

We are looking for donations of Redner’s and Boyer’s gift cards (or cash) for an “Easter Basket Drawing”. Please make your donations by 02 March. You can either put them into the collection basket or else give them to Fr. Connolly or to Ginny or to Ian. Further details in future bulletins.

TWENTY-ONE EGYPTIAN CHRISTIANS WERE BEHEADED IN LIBYA BY ISLAMIC TERRORISTS THIS PAST WEEK. PRESIDENT OBAMA SAID THAT THEY WERE “EGYPTIAN CITIZENS AND THAT THEY WERE MURDERED BY ISIL-AFFILIATED TERRORISTS”. HE WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE ACCURATE IF HE HAD SAID THAT THEY WERE “EGYPTIAN CHRISTIANS” AND THAT THEY WERE MURDERED BY RADICAL MUSLIM TERRORISTS”.
LET IT BE NOTED FOR THE RECORD THAT THESE 21 MEN WERE MURDERED, NOT BECAUSE THEY WERE EGYPTIANS, NOR BECAUSE THEY WERE MIGRANT WORKERS, BUT PRECISELY BECAUSE THEY WERE CHRISTIANS. HIS HOLINESS, POPE FRANCIS, SAID THAT THESE MEN WENT TO THE SLAUGHTER WITH THE WORDS “JESUS, HELP ME” ON THEIR LIPS. AND IT IS NO SECRET THAT RADICAL MUSLIM TERRORISTS CITE THE QURAN AND THE PROPHET MUHAMMAD (perhaps incorrectly) AS THEIR AUTHORITY FOR THEIR BARBARIC ACTIONS. (Such are the perils of a religion that, unlike Catholicism, has a “holy book”, but no authoritative magisterium!) THE MURDERERS MADE IT AS CLEAR AS A BELL THAT THEY WERE KILLING THESE MEN PRECISELY BECAUSE THEY WERE “PEOPLE OF THE CROSS” AND “FOLLOWERS OF THE HOSTILE EGYPTIAN CHURCH”. THESE VERY WORDS (IN ARABIC AND IN ENGLISH) ARE ON THE VIDEO THAT RECORDS THE SLAUGHTER — THE VIDEO THAT ISIL ITSELF PRODUCED!
HERE ARE THE NAMES OF THE MARTYRS. I AM WELL AWARE OF THE FACT THAT NO ONE OTHER THAN THE POPE CAN CANONIZE ANYONE, BUT I HOPE TO BE FORGIVEN FOR FOLLOWING MY HEART, NOT MY HEAD, BY APPENDING “PRAY FOR US” AFTER THE NAME OF EACH.

01 — Milad Makeen Zaky, pray for us!
02 — Abanub Ayad Atiya, pray for us!

TRUE STORY:
SOMEONE PUT HALF-A DOLLAR INTO THE COLLECTION
BASKET IN ST. JOSEPH CHAPEL A FEW WEEKENDS AGO!

You say: Now, why in the world would you tell us that someone put a half-dollar into the collection basket? What’s the big deal? Is that supposed to be big news? You money-grubbing priests make me sick! You’re complaining that it was ONLY a half-dollar, is that it? That’s not very Christian of you!
I say: No, no, no! You misunderstand! Would you please pay attention? I didn’t say that someone put a half-dollar in the collection basket! I said that someone put half-a dollar in the collection basket!
You say: What’s the difference between “half a dollar” and “a half dollar”? Same thing, isn’t it? It’s fifty cents, isn’t it? Are you splitting hairs here with me?
I say: No, I am not splitting hairs! What I’m trying to tell you is that someone put HALF OF A DOLLAR in the collection basket. That’s HALF OF A DOLLAR BILL, you get me? Someone tore a dollar bill in half and put one half into the basket!
You say: Oh! Now I get you! Well, I grant you it’s strange that someone would tear a dollar bill in half and put one half of it in the collection basket. But maybe that’s all the poor soul could afford that weekend. Maybe he or she needed the other half to pay the rent. But the bank will still count it as fifty cents, won’t they?
I say: No! That’s what I’m trying to get at! When we took the deposit to the bank, we asked the bank lady if they would give us credit for half of a dollar bill. She said, “No way, José! Forget about it! It’s the whole bill or nothing!” So, now we’ve got half of a dollar bill stuck in a mayonnaise jar in the cabinet in the parish office. We don’t want to throw it away because we never know. If we wait long enough, maybe the guy (or gal) will put the other half of that same dollar bill into the collection basket and then we can tape the two halves together and St. Joseph Parish will be one-dollar richer — or should I say, “one dollar less poor”?
You say: Well, I’m sorry for your troubles, Padre! That’s life in G’ville!
I say: Yeah, thanks a lot! I really needed that! Now, what I’m worried about is that the Feds are going to bust in on me with their machine guns and make me open that mayonnaise jar and then charge me with violating Title 18, Part One, Chapter 17, Paragraph 333 of the U.S. Code, which clearly states: “Whoever mutilates, cuts, defaces, disfigures, or perforates, or unites or cements together, or does any other thing to any bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt issued by any national banking association, or Federal Reserve bank, or the Federal Reserve System, with intent to render such bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt unfit to be reissued, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.”
You say: Well, it’s only six months. I could do six months standing on my head!
I say: Well, maybe you would be so kind as to take my place!

ATHEISTS ACTUALLY DO BELIEVE IN GOD.

They just don’t want to admit it. According to the International Journal for the Psychology of Religion, a group from the University of Helsinki (Finland) connected a small number of atheists to a lie detector and had them read aloud statements like, "I dare God to make me die of cancer." The study reported that each of them broke into a sweat that was picked up by the lie detector.
Machines commonly referred to as “lie detectors” are not precisely “detectors of lies”. They are “ambivalence detectors”. In other words, they detect physical manifestations (changes in respiration or heartbeat or pulse rate or skin moisture) of emotional reactions to saying what one does not really believe.
One might say that a “lie detector” is a “troubled conscience detector”. A normal person, if and when he tells a lie, experiences an involuntary sense of dissonance, even of dread. This, according to the theory, raises the heart rate and produces detectable sweat on the surface of the skin.
According to the article in the IJPR, researchers concluded that the results of the lie detector experiment on persons who called themselves “atheists” imply that the attitudes of the subjects toward God are ambivalent inasmuch as their explicit beliefs conflict with their affective response.
Atheism is almost always the denial of the known truth.
Atheists are usually persons who try to convince others that they are intellectually superior to persons who believe in God, and vastly superior to those of us who not only believe in God but actually pray, go to Mass, observe commandments and go to Confession and all that kind of stuff!
But, of course, atheism is almost always rationalization of the refusal to obey.
It’s as simple as that.
Atheists are pathetic. "For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse…" (Romans 1:20) We don’t have to convince atheists that God exists. They already know that. We need, instead, to convince them that they are in imminent danger of going to Hell for all eternity for committing the Sin Against the Holy Ghost, viz. denial of the known truth.

CONNECTING THE DOTS
Something I happened to read this past week was this: Brad Pitt and Angeline Jolie have a daughter named Shiloh (age 8). Shiloh has announced that, contrary to the anatomical evidence, she is not a girl. She is a boy. A change of gender calls for a change of name. So, Shiloh is no longer Shiloh. Shiloh is John. Most important piece of news is this: Brad wants it to be known that he supports his child’s decision to change her gender.
Then I connected some dots. I remember having read some time ago that Brad Pitt is an atheist. The thought occurred to me that, if a person chooses to be an atheist, he then frees himself from all attachment to Logic and Rationality! He is able to live comfortably in Cloud Cuckoo Land. That must be why he finds it possible to look at his 8-year-old child and say, “She used to be my daughter, but now he is my son.” Atheism makes people stupid.

WE SHARE THE MAIL
To: Father Connolly
From: Ian R. Getzey
Date: 2/17/2015
Subject: Stations of the Frost
Father I know you would like to have Stations of the Cross upstairs at St. Joseph, but I really don’t think it’s a good idea. We got lucky last year because Lent started later, but I’m not so sure about now. I know I said it before last year but I’m saying it again because I’m pretty concerned. I checked on the upper church today. The thermostat read 41 degrees. I have it set for 50 degrees. It has been so cold the heat can’t keep up. If I turn up the thermostat for a Mass it won’t do anything. The boiler can only run and run but it can’t heat the place. This is during the day! I can’t imagine what it was last night! Granted it was the coldest day of the year, so consider this a worst case scenario. I even removed all the radiator covers in the church a few weeks ago to try to warm it up some more and it was still this cold. I will put them back on later.
This is nothing really new, although I never saw it that low even last year. The heating system is flawed from whoever did this in the past, but that’s a story for another day.

OKAY, OKAY, OKAY!
I’d better swallow my pride and do what the lad tells me!
I’ve come to realize that he is smarter than the average doorknob!
So, Sunday evening Stations of the Cross will be in St. Joseph Chapel, not in the Upper Church, until things warm up a bit.

WHEN ENTERING SAINT JOSEPH CHAPEL on weekends — during this extremely cold weather — please do so via the Sheridan Room door entrance, rather than the door that leads immediately into the chapel.
Why are we asking you to do this?
Because it will save on the heat.
You are welcome to exit from the chapel via either door.
Thank you for your cooperation.
I DECIDED IT WAS TIME TO SAVE SOME TIME AND MONEY and, at the same time, increase the level of security on my home and adjacent property.
So, I called my Security Alarm company and told them to cancel my contract and to come around and remove all their alarms, sensors and cameras. That’s going to save me some big bucks.
Then I resigned from the Neighborhood Crime-Watch group. That means one less meeting I have to go to every month!
Then I bought three large flags: two Pakistani and one Islamic State (IS).
I ran the two Pakistani flags up on poles: one in my back yard and one on my front lawn.
Then I spread the Islamic State flag across my front porch.
Now, the local Police, the Sheriff, the State Police, the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, the CIA and the Secret Service have cars circling the block 24/7.
I've never felt safer in my life!
