SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR THOSE WHO ARE SICK

Sunday
Come to Me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For My yoke is easy, and My burden light.

Matthew 11, 28-30

Monday
Three times I begged the Lord about this, that it might leave me, but He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” I will rather boast most gladly of my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell with me. Therefore, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and constraints, for the sake of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

2 Corinthians, 12, 08-10

Tuesday
I consider that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed in us ….. We know that all creation is groaning in labor pains even until now ……. But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait with endurance.

Romans 08, 18. 22. 25

Wednesday
For, indeed, He was crucified out of weakness, but He lives by the power of God. So also we are weak in Him, but toward you we shall live with Him by the power of God.

2 Corinthians 13, 04

Thursday
For through the Law, I died to the Law, that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Christ; yet I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me; insofar as I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God Who has loved me and given Himself up for me.

Galatians 02, 19-20

Friday
For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in His footsteps. “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in His mouth.” When He was insulted, He returned no insult; when He suffered, He did not threaten; instead, He handed Himself over to the One Who judges justly. He Himself bore our sins in His body upon the cross, so that, free from sin, we might live for righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed.

1 Peter 02, 21-24

Saturday
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and God of all encouragement, Who encourages us in our every affliction, so that we may be able to encourage those who are in any affliction with the encouragement with which we ourselves are encouraged by God. For as Christ’s sufferings overflow to us, so through Christ does our encouragement also overflow. If we are afflicted, it is for your encouragement and salvation; if we are encouraged, it is for your encouragement, which enables you to endure the same sufferings that we suffer. Our hope for you is firm, for we know that as you share in the sufferings, you also share in the encouragement.

THE GREAT ANNUAL CHINESE AUCTION
What you should know
Date of Auction is Sunday, 08 March.
Venue is same: St. Vincent dePaul Parish Hall
Time: Doors open at 12:00 noon / Auction begins at 02:00 pm
Chances on Lottery Tree will be sold after each Mass, starting this weekend (07 / 08 Feb)
“Auction packages” will also be sold after each Mass. A package costs $15.00. It includes admission ticket, plus chances on items big and small.
Every adult parishioner is respectfully requested to purchase a package.
THE HOLY ROSARY SOCIETY MONTHLY MEETING that normally would have been held this past Thursday evening (05 Feb) was postponed until this coming Thursday (12 Feb). As usual, it will be in the parish hall, after the 07:00 pm Mass.
THE HOLY NAME SOCIETY MONTHLY MEETING will be held in the meeting room today (08 Feb) after the 08:30 am Mass.
THE BLESSING OF THROATS IN HONOR OF SAINT BLASE will be given after the homily at each Mass this weekend. In order to allow sufficient time for the blessing of throats and so as not to extend unduly the duration of the Mass, the pastor is resolved to make the homily unusually short this weekend — no more than 45 minutes max.
In the past, we always (almost always) gave the blessing of throats on 03 February, regardless of the day of the week on which it fell, for the simple reason that it seems more appropriate to do so on the day itself. The drawback to doing it on a weekday is that many people can’t (or don’t) come out for it. (I guess that’s because many people are rather blasé about their religious practices!) So, this year, we are exercising “pastor’s prerogative” and are offering it on the weekend following 03 February. Please don’t report me to the Bishop!
By the way, whenever I type the name of the saint, I hesitate because I’m not sure whether to spell it “Blaise” or “Blase”. I’ve seen it spelled both ways. If and when I get to Heaven, I shall ask the Holy Martyr Bishop which spelling is correct.

THERE WAS A TYPO ON PAGE SIX OF THE 18 JANUARY PARISH BULLETIN and I had better correct it lest I get in trouble!
Here is the sentence where the typo appeared:
“If you attend Mass at St. Vincent dePaul Church, you will notice that I have exercised ‘pastor’s prerogative’ and have moved some statutes around.”
I carelessly typed “statutes” where I meant to type “statues”.
While I do claim “pastor’s prerogative” in regard to statues, I most definitely do not claim any such prerogative in regard to God’s statutes!
God forbid that I ever would!
I remember at least two verses from the Bible that have to do with statutes.
Both of them appear in Psalm 119.
Verse 118: You reject all who stray from your statutes, for vain is their deceit.
Verse 155: Salvation is far from sinners because they do not cherish your statutes.

So, for the record:
I do not wish to stray from God’s statutes. I do not wish to be vain in my deceit!
I do not wish to be far from salvation and I do want to cherish God’s statutes!
Sorry for the confusion!

AND WHILE WE ARE MAKING CORRECTIONS, please note (with our apologies) that we inadvertently omitted the following names and intentions from the listing of “Christmas Flowers” donors in the 18 January parish bulletin:
St. Joseph Parish
Mr. and Mrs. Patrick McMonegal: In memory of PFC John J. McMonegal Jr., John J. McMonegal Sr., Paul Houser Sr., Sally Ann Smith, Jacob and Lucas Opuda.
Mike and Theresa McDonald: In memory of John and Gloria Chiaretti, Mary Jane Ritzo, Ellen McDonald.
St. Vincent dePaul Parish
Frank and Rose Popeck: In memory of deceased members of the D’Alfonso and the Popeck families; In honor of St. Anthony.
Charles and Kathy Sherman: In memory of Violet Sherman and Mary Shaner
