POPE FRANCIS, SAME-SEX MARRIAGE and THE FATHER OF LIES

 “The Argentine people must face, in the next few weeks, a situation whose result may gravely harm the family. It is the bill on matrimony of persons of the same sex. The identity of the family, and its survival, are in jeopardy here: father, mother, and children. The lives of so many children will be discriminated against ahead of time, because the experience of growing up with a father and a mother, which is God’s Will for them, will be in jeopardy. The law of God, engraved in our hearts, is in jeopardy.
Let us not be naïve! It is not a simple political struggle. It is an intention which is destructive of the plan of God. It is not a mere legislative project — this is a mere instrument — but rather a prompting by the Father of Lies, who wishes to confuse and deceive the children of God.”

Please note that the Pope’s reference to “the Father of Lies” comes from the Gospel of John (8:44), where Jesus refers to the devil as “a liar and the father of lies.” So Pope Francis is saying that “same-sex marriage” is diabolical and should be condemned.

At the present time, “same-sex marriage” is illegal in Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania is the only state in the Northeast in which “same-sex marriage” is illegal.
(I can hardly believe what I just typed!)
So far, sixteen states (plus the District of Columbia) permit “same-sex marriage”.
• The people of Pennsylvania have not called for the legalization of “same-sex marriage”.
• The Pennsylvania State Legislature has not called for the legalization of “same-sex marriage”.
• The Governor of Pennsylvania has not called for the legalization of “same-sex marriage”.
However, some civil-rights groups have entered suit against the State of Pennsylvania. Their contention, as I understand it, is that Pennsylvania is violating the Equal Protection Clause of Section One of the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution by not allowing two men or two women to get married.
Let us take a look at the aforementioned Equal Protection Clause, shall we? Here is Section One:

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. (The part in bold and underlined is the Equal Protection Claus.)

The 14th Amendment became part of the US Constitution in 1868. It was one of the Reconstruction Amendments, meant to protect the rights of Black Persons, most of whom (living in the South) had been slaves.
Now, does anyone in his right mind think that it was the intent of Congress or of the State legislatures that ratified the 14th Amendment in 1868 to extend to males the right to marry males or to females the right to marry females?
On 09 June 2014, Federal District Judge John E. Jones III will convene court in Harrisburg to hear the arguments. It is not, of course, a jury trial. Judge Jones himself will decide as to whether Pennsylvania may rightly refuse to recognize sodomite unions. I am not optimistic. Of course, if Judge Jones rules against Pennsylvania, we can always appeal his ruling to the Supreme Court of the United States. If so, I am not optimistic. Come, Lord Jesus! And, just in case Your coming is delayed, would you please send St. Michael the Archangel to Harrisburg on 09 June 2014?

If you want to become eligible once again to receive Holy Communion, go to Confession and separate from your boyfriend / girlfriend. Go back home to Mom and Dad. They would be happy to have you back home. You may, of course, invite your boyfriend over to the house, but keep him out of your bedroom.

We are referring, of course, to the Freemasons. Contrary to what you will be told by some members of the Freemasons, it is NOT permitted for Catholics to hold membership in any Masonic Lodge or subsidiary thereof.

(The Blessed Sacrament will be removed from the chapel, so as to create a “casual environment” for the Bishop and the confirmati to pose for photographs after the Confirmation Mass.)

SYLVIA BROWNE died on Wednesday, 20 November. Perhaps you saw her obituary in Friday’s newspaper. Does her name ring a bell? She was a celebrity psychic and “spiritual teacher”. She was a frequent guest on the Larry King and the Montel Williams shows.
I have always been amazed at the fact that Sylvia was able to hoodwink so many persons. Why is it that nonsense is not universally recognized as nonsense? Why is it that something so obviously phony is not recognized by everyone as phony? Why is it that some people can be fooled all of the time? What is it that makes a person willing to spend $700.00 to get a “reading” over the phone? (According to what I read, that’s what Sylvia charged.) If she charged that much for an “over the phone” reading, I don’t want to think what she charged for a face-to-face reading!
Sylvia claimed that she could communicate with dead persons. She could put you in touch with your departed grandmom, grandpop, mom, dad, husband, wife. You name it, you got it! You let her know who you want to get in touch with and she’ll locate him or her for you!
Sylvia had some very precise information about Heaven: The temperature there is a constant 78 degrees Fahrenheit. I don’t know what she had to say about the humidity. She said that there are no insects in Heaven — UNLESS you want them to be there! How convenient! (In that case, I think I shall want there to be butterflies, although I could do without caterpillars, but I don’t know if it’s possible to have butterflies without caterpillars. I’ll find out when I get there!) As one might suspect, Sylvia said that there are pets in Heaven. (Kateri was happy to know that.) As far as buildings are concerned, Sylvia says that you can build your house anywhere you want. (I guess there is no Zoning Commission.) As to where Heaven is located, Sylvia said that it exists approximately three feet above ground level (whatever that means) and that the reason it can’t be seen by ordinary human beings — remember, of course, that Sylvia is not an ordinary human being — is that it exists at a “higher vibrational level”. Sylvia claimed to have the gift to be able to perceive a wide range of “vibrational frequencies”. (Please don’t ask me what that means. I have no idea!)
Sylvia claimed to be able to see angels. What do angels look like? She said that they look very much the way they are portrayed in paintings. I’m kind of disappointed at that. In my opinion, most — but not all — artistic renditions of angels are just plain silly. But don’t get me wrong! I do, indeed, believe in the existence of angels. It’s just that I don’t believe in angels who look like fairies dancing on the meadow. It’s better that I don’t see angels, at least not yet. I’m sure I’d fall down dead of fright if I ever saw one!
One might reasonably ask: Where did Sylvia get all this inside information? She said she got much of it from Francine. Who is Francine? Francine was Sylvia’s "spirit guide". Francine told Sylvia that she (Sylvia) had gone through a great many reincarnations before becoming “Sylvia”. Francine acquainted Sylvia with some details of about fifty-four of her prior incarnations.
Sylvia fancied herself a prophet and a seer. She convinced many persons that she could see into the future. So, she dazzled a lot of people by predicting that there would be hurricanes next year in Florida and tsunamis in the Pacific. She predicted that Tom Cruise would be getting divorced and that there would be unrest in the Middle East. This is somewhat akin to predicting that the weather in Girardville will be cold in January, but hot in July.
Sylvia and her ex-husband purchased a defunct gold mine and sold stock in it to unsophisticated investors, promising that gold would soon be forthcoming. For this, the two of them were indicted by the State of California. They pleaded “no contest” to securities fraud and were indicted for grand larceny.
Oh, yes! One other thing: Sylvia predicted that Mitt Romney would be elected President in 2012. Unfortunately, she failed to inform the voters and the Electoral College.
And yet, through it all, she kept her faithful followers, many of whom swore by her, so hungry were they for “something more than can be seen in this life”. Poor suckers! Just like all the sad people who go after fortune tellers, horoscopes, amulets, seers, Ouija boards, séances and lucky charms! If only they would come to know our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they would never fall prey to Sylvia and her ilk.
Well, what can we say about Sylvia now that she is gone?
There is not a whole lot more to say about her. But there is something we can say for her:
“Lord, have mercy on Sylvia Browne! I pray that she was repentant before she died. If so, then ‘eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon her! May she rest in peace. Amen.’”
One more “Sylvia fact”: On the Larry King Show, she told Larry that she would live to the age of 88. She shouldn’t have tempted the Lord. She died at the age of 77. Only eleven years off!

A FAMILY FROM ENGLAND was visiting Schuylkill County this past summer — a man and his wife and three young children. The man asked me if there was an amusement park in the vicinity where he could take the children for a day. I said, “Well, I would recommend that you take them to the Knoebels Grove. It’s not very far from here and I think the children will enjoy it.” “The Knoebels Grove you say?” he replied. “Well, Guv’nor, thank you for the compliment, but I don’t think that would be the place for the likes of us. We’re just plain folk from Liverpool, you know, just your ordinary commoners. By any chance, is there a Kcommoners Grove in the vicinity?”
