GEORGE MICHAEL MISUNAS Jr.,
son of George M. (Sr.) and Joy (Lentes) Misunas married
KATIE ANN CHRISTINE SQUIRES,
daughter of F. Thomas and Mary Kay (Pikitus) Squires,
in St. Vincent dePaul Church, Girardville, on Saturday, 25 May 2013, in the presence of “a duly authorized priest and two witnesses”, viz. Fr. Connolly, the pastor, and George M. Misunas Sr. (father of the groom and best man) and Kara M. Petrusky, (maid of honor). There were many other witnesses as well, those in the wedding party and those in the pews.
George and Katie made the solemn threefold promise: (a) that they would be faithful to one another; (b) that they would maintain the union for the rest of their lives; (c) that they would be open to God’s gift of children, just in case He is disposed to grant the gift. (Most of the time, He is.)
Not much else needs to be said!
Just this: We commend the newly married couple to Almighty God, to the Holy Mother Mary and to Saint Joseph. We pray that they will love and cherish one another and that they will be patient with one another and forgive one another’s faults.
May God bless and keep George and Katie Misunas!
HAVE-A-HEART BENEFIT!
Girardville Borough resident Rob Krick is in need of a heart transplant. He has been unable to work for the past year because of his illness. Due to extremely high medical costs, fundraisers are being planned to provide financial support: (a) If you would like to help with fundraising efforts, please join us for a brainstorming session on Tuesday, 28 May 2013 at 07:00 pm in the St. Vincent dePaul Parish Hall. (b) If you want to send a donation directly, send it to Rob Krick Heart Fund, c/o Warren (Nick) Lane, 938 Center Street, Ashland PA 17921; (c) If you would like to support the K of C efforts, you can order a hoagie by signing the sheet in the back of the churches. Deadline for orders is 17 June and delivery (Sheridan Room) is 25 June.
Of course, you can do all three!

AND NOW A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE MEETING that I attended at the Chancery in Allentown on Monday, 20 May — the one that had to do with “parish restructuring”.
I am choosing my words carefully because people are sometimes inclined to take half a sentence and run with it.
Please do not do that!
Keep in mind also that the priests who attended the meeting (there were eight all together, from various parts of the diocese) were asked to maintain a prudent confidentiality.
I shall maintain a “prudent confidentiality” in regard to those things that are not yet settled. Quite frankly, it is extraordinarily simple for me to be confidential about things of which I am ignorant!
(Yes, that last sentence was meant to be humorous!)
Therefore: You might want to ask me, “Of the two church buildings and two rectories currently in use in Girardville, which ones will be retained for use once a decision has been announced?” If that’s what you ask me, I will tell you in absolute and total honesty: “I do not know! I guess I’ll find out very shortly before everyone else finds out!”
Keep in mind: The Diocese operates on the principle of subsidiarity. At the top of the decision-making process is the Bishop. All authority is invested in him. He is subject only to the Pope and to Canon Law. And the fact is that he has not yet made a final decision in regard to Girardville. That is a fact!
The Council of Priests advises him in important matters. The Council of Priests has not yet made a decision as to how they will advise the Bishop in regard to Girardville. That is a fact!
The Synod submits proposals to the Council of Priests in order to advise the Council as to how to advise the Bishop. The Synod has not yet made a decision as to how they will advise the Council in regard to Girardville.
Having said all that, I now tell you what I think is likely. “Likely” is not “for sure”. I could be surprised!
I think it is likely that an announcement will be made in regard to parish restructuring in Girardville sometime this year (2013) — I think “later” rather than “sooner”.
I think it is likely that the decision will be made to establish one parish in Girardville by merging the two parishes.
I think it is likely that this decision will go into effect in 2014.
CARLY ALTIUS GREGAS
The motto of the Olympics is CITIUS, ALTIUS, FORTIUS. Translation: FASTER, HIGHER, STRONGER.
I just took the liberty of giving Carly Gregas a new middle name: ALTIUS for HIGHER.
She was awarded third place — a bronze medal — in the High Jump competition at the PIAA tournament held yesterday (Friday) in Shippensburg PA.
Carly is the #01 female high jumper in the Schuylkill League and now she is #03 in the State!
At the PIAA meet, she bested her previous high of 5’4” by an inch. Now her personal high is 5’5”. She tried valiantly for 5’6”, but it eluded her. But she is only a sophomore and there will be other opportunities.
Carly is a member of St. Vincent dePaul Parish — and a very fine and faithful member she is indeed! She is no stranger to Sunday Mass! She is the kind of teenager who makes me think that “there is still hope for the world”. Whenever her mother says, “Jump!”, Carly says, “How high?
Way to go, Carly! All of us are proud of you!
