Receipts for parish purposes: $1,067.00 from the Sunday envelopes; $74.00 from the plate; $57.00 from the Dues envelopes; $20.00 from the Building maintenance envelopes; $91.00 from the loose.
Total: $1,309.00
Receipts for non-parish purposes: $30.00 from the Black and Indian Missions envelopes;

AS MENTIONED IN A PREVIOUS BULLETIN, the Diocese sent me a letter some months ago in which they SUGGESTED that St. Joseph Parish consider demolishing the former Immaculate Heart of Mary School building on the corner of Main and Richard Streets.
Now I have received a letter from the Diocese in which they go beyond suggesting — if you know what I mean. They really, really, really want us to move on it. So, I think we should.
This will be discussed at a Parish Finance Council meeting this month.

ANN THERESA CONNOR,
a member of Saint Joseph Parish, died on Monday, 25 February.
Born on 07 February 1928, Ann was 85 years of age.
She is one of the four children of the late Charles and Mary (Larkin) Connor.
All three of her siblings are deceased: Jean Connor Joyce; Charles Connor; Walter Connor.
Ann was baptized in St. Joseph Church, Girardville, on 19 February 1928 by Fr. Edward H. Allen.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Ann was celebrated in St. Joseph Church on Saturday, 02 March, at 11:00 am. There was a viewing in the church prior to the Mass.
The interment took place in the parish cemetery in Fountain Springs.
Eternal rest grant unto Ann, O Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE A DONATION TO THE SPCA?
We don’t usually solicit for the SPCA via the parishes. So, let me explain: In connection with a school project, Ian R. Getzey asked me if I would allow him to put one or more collection cans in the churches for the purpose of soliciting funds for the local SPCA. I told him that I could not do that but that I could put something in the bulletin. So, here goes: If anyone would like to contribute to the SPCA, please put a check (made out to SPCA) or cash in an envelope. Mark the envelope “SPCA” and either give it to Ian directly or give it to the pastor or drop it in the collection basket. You have Ian’s guarantee that any and all money received will go to the SPCA.

WINNERS OF MAJOR PRIZES AT CHINESE AUCTION
• Julie Rutko won the train.
• Karen Ives won the 50 / 50.
• Lisa Karavage won the lottery tree.
• I don’t have the name of the lady who won the TV, but I shall try to get it for next weekend’s bulletin. (I know it was a woman because I drew the ticket and saw her come up to claim the prize. I did not write down her name, but I’ll try to find it.

MORE THAN A MONTH HAS GONE BY since my 75th birthday. I want to thank all those kind people who sent me cards and gifts and even made me cakes! I want to thank in particular the Holy Rosary Society and the Holy Name Society for the party they gave for me. I was deeply touched by everyone’s kindness and expressions of love.
We men like to downplay our birthdays. We like to say, “Ah, it’s no big deal!” But the little boy inside me — and inside most other grown men, I suspect — is always happy for some BD cake, especially if it has candles on it that need to be blown out! I am grateful to God Who has given me life and allowed me to live to the age of 75. I’m open to a few more years, if the Lord sees fit. Most of all, I look forward to eternal life. I presume that, in eternity, we stop counting birthdays — although I’m not certain about that. That’s a good question for a theologian: Do we have birthday parties in heaven?

THE PROFIT FROM THE CHINESE AUCTION CAME TO
SIX THOUSAND, NINE HUNDRED, THREE DOLLARS!
$6,903.00

On behalf of the Holy Rosary Society, thank you to all who worked so hard to make this happen, with special thanks to the members of the Holy Name Society: setting up the tables and chairs, setting up the prizes, preparing the food and drink, cleaning up afterwards.
Thank you to all who donated prizes.
Thank you to all who attended.
May God bless you, one and all!
THE FISHERMAN’S RING.
This past Thursday, 28 February 2013, at 02:00 pm EDT, the Supreme Pontiff, Benedict XVI, Bishop of Rome, removed this ring from his finger and handed it over to Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church. Normally, the Camerlengo removes it from the hand of the dead Pope. This is the first time in almost 600 years that the Pope removed the ring on his own. It is the Camerlengo’s duty to destroy the ring. (We trust that he has done his duty by now!) Soon a new ring will be fashioned. It will be engraved with the name of the new Pope. It will be placed on the tomb of Saint Peter. Then it will be placed on the finger of the new Pope. Until further notice, there is no Visible Head of the Church. But always there is Jesus, the Supreme and Eternal Pontiff of the Catholic Church. God save the Church!
